Our wines spend 18-22 months in mostly neutral barrels with no added yeasts and minimal SO2 during aging.  We believe this aids in a more complete polymerization of phenolic compounds and allows some of the forward fruit character in the young wines to decrease, allowing more land and season specific characteristics to emerge. We do not force cold soaks, extend maceration times, or add enzymes to increase extraction. In short, we hope to keep the wines taut, long living, and original to their provenance. Unless noted, these wines are neither fined nor filtered.

As for the 2014 growing season, it was a warm and dry spring resulting in a large potential bounty. The heat remained and intensified over the summer, which warranted less green harvesting than normal. This gave the fruit a chance to ripen a touch slower, ensuring adequate phenolic ripeness at the end of the season. Harvest was dry and warm, allowing us the chance to decide when to harvest unlike other years when weather truly dictates the finish to our growing season. We picked the fruit when it was ripe, and our resulting wines from 2014 show a concentration in flavors, yet they are structured and buoyant due to the freshness and appropriate tannin levels in the fruit at the time of harvest.

2014 | PINOT NOIR

STORMY MORNING VINEYARD

This is a blend of our barrels exclusively from Stormy Morning Vineyard in 2014. We chose these barrels not for richness, new oak or flash, but rather on the premise that we see the character of Stormy Morning being upheld in the resulting wine.

TASTING NOTES

Powerful and concentrated notes of blood orange flesh and skin, rio star grapefruit, roses, and cranberries. With air, salted blood orange, bing cherry, cinnamon, and raspberries. As the wine warms up from cellar temp (55f), light background notes of cocoa, truffle, and menthol are noted. On the palate, the 2014 Stormy Morning is concentrated, with lots of silk and liveliness noted through the mid palate. The wine tightens back up in a beautiful display of youthful tension while the finish is deep and concentrated. This wine will benefit from a light decant or enjoyed over a few days, and will develop a lot more if laid down in a cool cellar.

$34.00/bottle

VINEYARD NOTES

Stormy Morning Vineyard is located in the Coastal Foothills northwest of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA where it experiences cooler conditions than the less exposed vineyards of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Though it shares the rich profiles of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA wines, the wines from Stormy Morning present themselves with more red accents to the fruit, rather than the blue, almost purple flavors of the warmer sites of Yamhill-Carlton.

2014 | Pinot Noir

Johan Vineyards

This is a blend of our barrels exclusively from Johan Vineyards in 2014. We chose these barrels not for richness, new oak or flash, but rather on the premise that we see the character of Johan Vineyards being upheld in the resulting wine.

TASTING NOTES

Hibiscus, smoked cherry, strawberry, and lemon verbena marks the initial aromatics. With air, deeper elements of cinnamon, chocolate, tangerine, and mint can be noted along with a bag full of fresh strawberries and chamomile. On the palate, the 2014 Johan is generous yet fresh. It has stuffing, but feels buoyant. This will provide a lot of enjoyment now, or could benefit from cellaring to allow some savory elements to develop.

2014 | SYRAH

Oregon

This is a blend of our 2014 syrah that best reflects the vintage. It is comprised of three vineyards, two from the Applegate Valley, including Steelhead Run, and one from the Umpqua Valley.

Tasting Notes

Tasting notes: Initial primary aromas of olives, raspberries, rose petal, quinine, grapefruit, and coffee. With air, veiled black pepper, blackberry, plum, chocolate, and menthol. As the wine warms up from cellar temperature (55f) and with more air, notes of white pepper, cranberry, oolong, and lavender are noted. On the palate, the wine is full and rich, but seemingly mid-weight with brightness at its core. The tannins present like dark chocolate and cocoa nibs at this point, with flavors of coffee, cherry, olive, oolong and lavender carrying the wine through a structured finish. This wine will develop further complexity in a cool cellar, or can be enjoyed with some air over a few days time in its youth.

2014 | Chardonnay

MOLLY'S VINEYARD

This is a blend of two neutral French oak barrels we felt best captured the Molly’ s Vineyard Chardonnay in 2014. Fermentation took place without inoculations and the wine was raised for 17 months in barrel, followed by 4 months on its lees in stainless steel.

TASTING NOTES

Capturing more of the elegant, mineral-driven side to the varietal, you’ll find aromas of jasmine, flint, lemon, ginger, honey and wet stone. On the palate, lemon cream, jasmine, honey, and chamomile wrapped in a delicate, mineral-driven frame. The finish is light yet persistent, with long echoes of lemon and white tea.

2014 | Chardonnay

Johan VINEYARDS

As with our Molly’s Vineyard Chardonnay, this is a blend of two neutral French oak barrels most representative of Johan Chardonnay from 2014.  Our fermentation is the same, no inoculations, and 17 months in barrel, followed by 4 months on its lees in stainless steel.

TASTING NOTES

Where the Molly’s Chardonnay is more savory in a way, the Johan has more immediate fruit aspects including aromas of lemon oil, coconut, and apricot which are complemented with notes of saltwater, cream, and ginger. On the palate, lots of lemon and orange flesh, followed with chalkiness, and notes of apricot on the persistent and bright finish.

2014 | Pinot Noir

NORTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY

This is a blend of the following vineyards in approximately 10% new French oak:

  • Stormy Morning
  • Johan
  • Molly's

As with our single vineyard designated wines, the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is raised for 22 months in barrel without racking or inoculations. We feel bottling this lot any earlier than the single vineyard wines would not allow for some of the more elegant, and detailed aspects to have a chance to develop and concentrate, and so all of the Pinot Noir is bottled at the same time nearly two years following the harvest.

TASTING NOTES

Aromatically, intense notes of roses, burnt orange, cranberry, smoked cherry, hibiscus, cinnamon and strawberry can be found. On the palate, lots of blood orange, concentrated strawberry, rooibos tea leaf, and cranberry are tucked into a savory and taut frame. The finish is long, bright, chewy and rich.

2014 | Red Wine

Oregon

We grew slightly in 2014, yielding us more barrels to make our blends from. It’s important for us to allow the single vineyard wines to tell their story, and it’s just as important that our Northern Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Oregon Syrah blends are an assembly of our barrels most suited for one another in these important bottlings. Some years we have barrels which may lend a profile too powerful to the mix; for instance, too much chocolate or tobacco which can overpower the other myriad of flavors in our Syrah, or too much cherry in the Pinot Noir which can overshadow the more delicate notes of rose petals. So we decided to take a few of these more pronounced parts and make a unique bottling, one with lots of charm and flavor, without going the route of varietal designation. So, with our first offering of this blend, here are the parts:

  • 2 barrels of Pinot Noir
  • 2 barrels of Syrah
  • 1 barrel of Rosé

Aging took place for 22 months in all neutral barrels. Given that the Rosé did not complete ML fermentation, this wine was lightly filtered before bottling.

TASTING NOTES

Aromas of deep red cherry, tobacco and sweet spices such as clove and anise. With time, notes of raspberries, hibiscus, dark chocolate and grapefruit emerge. On the palate, lots of juicy red fruit with plenty of dark, savory notes holding the tension together. With plenty of forward fruit appeal now, there is lots of structure to keep this wine motoring along for some time.

2015 | rosé

Molly's VINEYARD

This is a blend of our Molly’s Vineyard Rosé that was fermented unaided in older puncheons and barriques. The wine was lightly filtered prior to bottling in April 2016, following 8 months of fermentation and maturation.

TASTING NOTES

Aromas of red grapefruit, apricot, cherry and orange are complemented with a feeling of minerality, spring flowers and a touch of strawberry.  On the palate, a sense of vibrant minerality sets the stage for rich flavors of stone fruit and citrus peel, which are followed with a long, refreshing finish.

SOLD OUT (Our 2016 vintage will be available in May, 2017)

NORTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY

This is a blend of approximately 50% Molly’s Vineyard Chardonnay and 50% Johan Chardonnay which we crafted in 2014. • Molly’s Vineyard (Greater NE Willamette Valley)
  • Johan Vineyards (SW of Eola-Amity Hills AVA)

TASTING NOTES

Intense aromas of meyer lemon and white peach are complemented with notes of flint, toasted coconut and lime leaves. On the palate, concentrated and mouthwatering notes of lemon curd, fleur de sel and graham are followed with a very long, concentrated and vibrant finish.

  • Belmont Vineyard, Bear Creek Valley, Southern Oregon
  • Steelhead Run Vineyard, Applegate Valley, Southern Oregon

TASTING NOTES

Aromas of deep, spicy red plum and blue fruit are complemented with notes of chocolate, grilled meats, salt-cured olives, coffee and tobacco. On the palate this wine is fresh and vibrant, along with a great density to both the texture and finish. It tastes a lot like it smells, with notes of minerals, saline, coffee and bitter chocolate on the finish.

TASTING NOTES

Powerful aromas of red raspberry, niçoise olives, green and black peppercorns, licorice, coffee, chocolate, fresh tobacco, and earth are complemented with a deep sense of cherry fruit in the background. On the palate this wine is very youthful and very exuberant with many years left to continue evolving. On tasting, notes of cranberries, niçoise olives, black tea and quinine are complemented with a sense of minerality wrapped in youthful tannins that help provide a long and intense finish.
